There's no sign-up. We never ask for your name, phone number or email.
Your pieces (text, photos, mood marks, times) and the issues you publish are stored only on your phone. We don't run a server that stores your diary, and we can't read it.
If you turn on auto sync (Pro), backups go to your own iCloud or Google Drive — never through us. On Google Drive we use only a hidden folder reserved for this app.
Only if you turn on Editor's proofread, the text of the issue you're closing is sent through our proofreading server to Anthropic (Claude) to check for typos. Photos are never sent, and we don't store the text.
We collect usage analytics. To make the App better, which screens you open and which features you tap (for example: opened the writing sheet, added a piece, how many photos, a range for text length) are sent to Google Analytics (Firebase). Your text, photos, search words and name are never sent.
The free version shows Google AdMob ads: a banner just above the tab bar, and a full-screen ad when you open the writing sheet (close it and you can write). Ads use an advertising identifier and device information — your diary is never used for ads. On iOS we ask for tracking permission (ATT) first, and in Europe and similar regions we show a consent form first. If you decline, you'll only see non-personalized ads. With Pro, we don't even request ads.
Payments are handled by the App Store and Google Play. The app never sees your card details.
Reminders are local notifications scheduled by your phone. There's no push server.
We don't use location, contacts or microphone permissions. The camera is used only when you take a photo yourself.

Your diary is never sold or handed over. It isn't stored by any ad, analytics or server of ours. It leaves your device in only three ways: ① your own cloud backup, ② a backup file, share or PDF that you choose to export, and ③ Editor's proofread if you turn it on (text only, not stored).
3. Why we use it
To let you write, publish and keep your diary — binding your pieces into the day's issue and showing them in the calendar, shelf and bound volumes (performance of our contract with you)
Backup and sync across devices — only if you turn it on, to keep and restore your diary in your own storage (contract)
Editor's proofread — only if you turn it on, to find typos and spelling mistakes in the issue you're closing (your consent)
Showing ads — to keep the App free (free version; personalized ads only with your consent)
Improving the App (usage analytics) — to learn which features are actually used and where people get stuck, so we can fix it
Paid features — to check your purchase and unlock Pro (contract)
Reminders — to remind you at the times you choose (processed on your device only)
We don't use your information for anything else, and we'll ask for your consent before using it for a new purpose.
4. Information that stays on your device
Your pieces, photos, issues, print and letter records and settings are saved in the storage area your operating system isolates and protects for each app.
Today's page on the home-screen widget is passed through an App Group shared container on the same device. It never leaves the device.
Camera filters, PDF binding and share images are all processed on your device.
The app lock (Face ID, Touch ID, fingerprint or face unlock) uses your operating system's biometric authentication. The App never receives or stores biometric data — only whether unlocking succeeded.
Deleting the App deletes this information. If you turned on auto sync, the cloud backup remains (see §5 and §13).
5. Backup and sync (your own storage)
Method
Stored in
Can we access it?
Auto sync · iOS/iPadOS (Pro)
Your iCloud Drive app container
No. Backups never pass through our servers, and we have no way to access your storage.
Auto sync · Google Drive (Pro)
A hidden app-only folder in your Google Drive (drive.appdata)
Backup file (.haru) — free
Wherever you choose (Files, email, another app…)
For Google Drive we request only the drive.appdata scope. The App can access only the hidden folder it created and can't see your other documents or photos.
If Pro ends, auto sync simply pauses. We never delete your pieces or your cloud copy.
"Erase everything and start over" in the App clears this device only. See §13 to delete your cloud copy.
6. Editor's proofread (optional · AI)
Editor's proofread is off by default. The first time you turn it on, we explain what will be sent and ask for your consent.
Sent
Never sent
The text of the issue you're closing (within the daily proofreading allowance)
Language (English, Korean or Japanese)
Install ID — a random value the App creates per install (used only to proofread each issue once)
Issue date
Photos
Name, email or contact details (we never collect them)
Advertising identifiers or location
Pieces from other days
The text passes through our proofreading server (Cloudflare Workers) to Claude by Anthropic PBC, and only a list of suggested fixes comes back.
We don't store the text. Our server logs contain only counts (number of pieces and fixes). To avoid proofreading the same issue twice, the server keeps only the install ID and issue date, for up to 30 days.
Anthropic does not use API content to train its models and deletes it within the period set by its policies.
Proofreading results are suggestions only. You decide whether to accept them, and you can turn the feature off in Settings at any time.
7. The sample press
When you open the sample press, the App downloads the list of samples and their stories (text and photos) from our server. The only thing it sends is your language — never your own pieces. The sample press is read-only and has no ads.
8. Advertising (Google AdMob)
To keep the App free, we show ads through Google AdMob, provided by Google LLC. There are only two kinds of ads:
Banner ad — shown at the bottom of the Calendar, Cover, Shelf and Settings screens, just above the tab bar (at the bottom of the screen on iPad). It's hidden while the writing sheet or a dialog is open.
Full-screen ad — shown first, across the whole screen, when you open the writing sheet (new piece, past day, addendum or edit). It appears without asking first; close it with the close button that appears after a moment, and the writing sheet opens. If you've just seen an ad, we won't show another one for a little while. If an ad can't load (for example, offline), the writing sheet opens right away — an ad will never keep you from writing. Ads are muted.
Consent — In the European Economic Area, the UK and other regions where consent is required, we first show Google's consent form (UMP). On iOS, before using the advertising identifier (IDFA), we ask for Apple's App Tracking Transparency (ATT) permission. If you decline, we request only non-personalized ads that don't use the identifier.
Android — Your advertising ID is managed by Google Play services. You can delete or reset it in Settings → Google → Ads (or Privacy → Ads).
We don't collect or keep advertising identifiers ourselves and never try to identify you by combining them with other information. Your pieces and photos are never used for ads. We do not sell your personal information.
With Pro, there are no banners or full-screen ads, and we don't even request ads.
When the App runs in a store's automated test environment, it doesn't request ads.
Payments are handled entirely by the App Store and Google Play. Card and billing details are never passed to the App; it receives only the product and whether the purchase succeeded.
Your purchase status is written to a single file on this device and is never included in backups or sync. On a new device, use the store's Restore Purchases. We don't keep a purchase database.
Subscription terms, cancellation and refunds are in the Terms of Use.

12. App permissions
Permission
Required?
Why
Camera
Optional
To take a photo in the App and add it to a piece. Everything else works without it
Photo picker

Imports only the photos you pick through the system picker (no access to your whole library)
Notifications
Optional
Writing and deadline reminders at the times you choose

Optional
To use the IDFA for personalized ads. Every feature works if you decline; you'll see non-personalized ads only
We never request or use location, contacts, microphone or call log permissions. You can revoke permissions any time in your device settings.
13. Your rights and choices
You can ask to access, correct, delete or restrict your information and withdraw consent at any time. Most of this you can do yourself, in the App.
Access, correct, delete — Your pieces are right there in the App; edit or delete them any time. Settings → Erase everything and start over removes all pieces, photos and settings from this device.
Export — Create a backup file (.haru) in Settings → Backup.
Delete your cloud backup — iOS: Settings → [your name] → iCloud → Manage Storage → Day Press / Google Drive: drive.google.com → Settings → Manage apps → Day Press → Delete hidden app data.
Withdraw consent — Turn off Editor's proofread, auto sync or reminders in Settings. Change ad tracking in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking or Android Settings → Google → Ads.
Install ID on the proofreading server — deleted automatically within 30 days; email us if you'd like it removed sooner.
Usage analytics — Deleting the App stops collection from that install, and what's been collected is deleted automatically after at most 14 months. If you don't allow tracking on iOS, the advertising identifier isn't used for analytics either; on Android you can reset or delete your advertising ID in Settings → Google → Ads. Email us if you'd like it deleted sooner.
Send any request to contact@modumworks.com and we'll handle it promptly. If you're in the EEA or UK, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
14. Children
The App is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your country), and we don't knowingly collect children's personal information. Because we don't collect diaries, nothing a child writes is stored by us. If a minor buys Pro without a parent's consent, the parent can request a cancellation through the store.
15. Security
Minimal collection — no accounts, and no server that stores diaries.
Minimal permissions — only the app-only cloud folder, and only the photos you pick.
Encryption in transit — all network traffic uses HTTPS (TLS).
On-device isolation and lock — your diary lives in an OS-isolated area, and you can turn on the app lock and hide the App in the app switcher.
Proofreading server — never stores text, and logs only counts.
To learn which features are actually used and where people get stuck, we use Google LLC's Google Analytics for Firebase. Your diary never goes there.
What we send
What we never send
App instance ID (a random value created for each install)
Device model, OS and app version, language, country (approximate region from your IP)
Screens you open, features you tap, sheets and windows you open and close, and how they ended (success, failure, cancel)
The fact that you added a piece or closed an issue, how many photos, a range for text length (e.g. under 50 characters), and that you used the Sample press, proofreading or backup
First open, app removal (Android), in-app purchase results (amount and currency), ad impressions (free version)
Advertising identifier — on iOS only if you allow tracking; on Android the advertising ID (to measure where installs come from)
Your text — piece text, titles and search words are never sent, by any route
Photos and file names
Name, email, contacts (we never ask for them)
Precise location (we don't use the location permission)
We don't use analytics to identify you; it's used only for analysis, kept for up to 14 months, then deleted automatically. The App itself only lets short English-letter codes through as values, so sentences in Korean, Japanese or any language can't end up in analytics.
If we change this policy, we'll let you know on this page or in the App at least 7 days before it takes effect (30 days for changes that are less favorable to you).
v1.1 — October 10, 2026: added usage analytics (Google Analytics for Firebase, §17) — revised before launch
